Prayer service for infant loss at Resurrection Church Oct. 15

EVELETH – A prayer service and candle-lighting for miscarriages and infant loss will take place at Resurrection Church in Eveleth on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. Resurrection Church is located at 301 Adams Ave. in Eveleth.

Pregnant. Just had a baby. Infant is 4 months old. You shared the exciting news with others. Then in a matter of moments the baby died. Whether due to a miscarriage, which is the spontaneous loss of a baby before week 20, or to a stillborn ranging from 20 weeks to term, or to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), which is unexplained death of a baby less than a year old. All of these losses are shocking and leave parents, friends and relatives devastated because all your hopes and dreams for your baby are gone.

Some miscarriages are a secret and only the mother and father know, while others are embarrassed by this loss. Still others want to talk about their miscarriage or having a baby in heaven, but this creates awkward moments when people ask, “How many children do you have?”

Still others around you do not understand. They may say things like, “It’s better this way as there was probably something wrong with the baby.” The list goes on and on. These statements can make you angry. It is much better for someone to say, “I am sorry for your loss.”

October 15 is National Pregnancy and Infant loss awareness day. This day is a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death. Resurrection Church in Eveleth invites everyone to their prayer and candlelight service. Individual candles will be lit at 7 p.m. for each person’s baby, whether it was yours or someone you know who lost their infant and/or baby as a miscarriage, stillborn, and/or infant. Come and show your support.

The event joins others nationwide in celebrating precious babies with the 7 p.m. lighting of candles.

A miscarriage, stillborn or infant loss is not a choice, it just happens. This loss affects your whole life. Those who have sustained a loss are encouraged to not be afraid, ashamed or embarrassed to attend. The prayer service is to honor, celebrate and embrace the memories of babies or infants who died and make sure they are not forgotten.

No matter how far along someone is or how the loss of your baby happens, the grief is overwhelming. Attend the prayer service and be among others to celebrate these precious babies.
